Steve McClaren has begun life as Newcastle United boss with a 2-2 home draw against Southampton.
The Magpies fell behind at St James' Park as the Saints took the lead in the 24th minute when summer arrival Cedric Soares provided a cross for Graziano Pelle to head home.
Papiss Cisse levelled for McClaren's side just before half-time with an instinctive finish to make the score 1-1.
Newcastle gained the advantage three minutes after the restart when new signing Georginio Wijnaldum buried past Maarten Stekelenburg but striker Shane Long equalised with a fine header in the 79th minute to tie it up at 2-2.
Ronald Koeman's Southampton went closest to snatching victory with five minutes added on, as Sadio Mane twice squandered chances for the visitors.
