PREMIER LEAGUE: Liverpool held by bottom club Blackburn

Stubborn Blackburn Rovers held out for a vital point at Liverpool as they survived constant pressure to emerge with a 1-1 draw. Blackburn had lost on their last four visits to Anfield yet this season Liverpool have struggled against the lesser lights of the Premier League at home and so it proved again.

For under fire Rovers boss Steve Kean this was a big result for his side who whilst they stay bottom showed they have the character to grind out results.

Liverpool dominated throughout but some brave defending from the outstanding Christopher Samba and an inspired performance from reserve keeper Mark Bunn frustrated the home side.

In fact Blackburn took the lead against the run of play on the stroke of half-time as Charlie Adam, challenged by Mauro Formica, sliced into his own net.

But the Reds poured on the pressure after the break and quickly levelled through Maxi Rodriguez with a close range header from Martin Skrtel's cross.

The scene seemed set for the host's to carry on and net a winner but Blackburn held firm and subject Liverpool to a sixth home draw of the campaign whilst the team from Ewood Park halted a run of three successive league defeats.
