Everton defeated Newcastle United 3-0 at Goodison Park on Wednesday night.
Roberto Martinez's side produced their first winning result since Boxing Day thanks to an early goal from Aaron Lennon and a late brace from the penalty spot from Ross Barkley.
The opener came on 23 minutes when Lennon received the ball from Tom Cleverley on the edge of the area, swivelled and turned, before firing low past Rob Elliot through a sea of legs.
Newcastle were struggling to place any real pressure on the Toffees who struck the woodwork three times in four minutes during the second half.
Everton finally managed to break through late in the contest after Rolando Aarons brought down Lennon in the area for the Merseyside club's first penalty this season.
Barkley, in his 100th Premier League outing, stepped up and converted from 12 yards before Jamaal Lascelles was sent off for a last-man challenge on the Toffees midfielder.
Barkley this time produced a cheeky panenka finish from the spot to take his tally to 11 goals for the campaign and cap off a fine display which could have easily brought about three or four goals.
The victory has Everton up to 11th after ending a five-game winless run in the league as Steve McClaren's Magpies remained 18th where they still sit two points from safety.
