Premier League clubs due £12.5M-a-year if new USA TV deal clinched

A new US television is set to deliver Premier League clubs almost £12.5m-a-year.

Broadcasters in the United States have initiated a bidding war over Premier League television rights, reports The Times, which has inflated the price well-backed companies ESPN and NBC are willing to pay for exclusive rights to the English top flight.

ESPN are owned by Disney while NBC are one arm of broadcast giant Comcast. The two media companies are intent on securing Premier League television rights in the United States, so much so that the going rate has reportedly risen to a staggering £1.5 billion.

The period which the rights would cover begins at the end of this season and runs until the close of play in 2027/28, spanning six years in total.

That works out at approximately £250 million per season for Premier League clubs, which split between 20 teams equates to £12.5 million per season - or £75 million over the entire period.
