Premier League clubs have avoided being forced to reduce the number of foreign stars within their ranks post-Brexit.

The UK has officially left the European Union but remains in a transition period until the end of December this year.

There were concerns that abolishing the free movement of people could lead to restrictions on the amount of foreign players allowed in each team.

Current rules demand each club has at least eight homegrown players in their registered 25-man squad list, with suggestions that figure could rise to 12.

But the Athletic reports those numbers will not change even once Brexit is finalised - but some transfers could still be affected.

The FA were keen on raising the number to 12, but are now open instead to the idea of a points-based system to determine whether players are allowed to come to the league.
