Premier League clubs almost split on controversial transfer deadline day

The Premier League have voted to keep the transfer deadline where it is.

The Mirror reports Premier League clubs have voted to keep the summer transfer window in its current position, so it closes before the start of the season.

There was a push to revert back to Deadline Day being at the end of August, with Manchester United believed to be one of the clubs in favour of a return to the old set-up.

The worry from several top sides was that it gives rivals in Spain, Germany and Italy a huge advantage over the Premier League because their windows will still be open and they can do deals when the English teams cannot respond.

The other fear is that teams in England could see players move abroad after the domestic window closes — and then not be able to sign anyone as replacements.

It is understood nine clubs wanted to revert to the old system and 11 teams voted to keep the new system at the Premier League meeting in London on Thursday.
