Portugal coach Santos offers support to Man City midfielder Bernardo Silva

Support is continuing to pour in for Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva.

Accused of racism when he posted an ill-advised picture on social media that compared Benjamin Mendy to a cartoon figure, Silva has received sympathy from those who know him within the game.

His club boss Pep Guardiola has come to his defence, while Raheem Sterling said he did not believe Bernardo had racist tendencies when he made the joke.

But Silva is facing an FA charge and could end up with a multi-game ban.

And his Portugal boss Fernando Santos has chimed in as well.

He dismissed the charge to reporters, saying: "I would have to do a thorough analysis and talk socially about what I think, and it would be a very long conversation.

"So just two words - complete nonsense. Out of the players I know, Bernardo is one with the most human and social character. He doesn't deserve this."
