Portsmouth still retain interest in Hamilton starlet McCarthy

Portsmouth remain keen on Hamilton teenager James McCarthy despite having a £500,000 offer rejected. The 18-year-old midfielder was named Scottish Young Player of the Year after an impressive breakthrough season.

Pompey caretaker boss Paul Hart has admitted they are continuing to monitor the situation closely.

Hart said: "I am director of the youth academy and he is a youngish boy, so I can get involved in those sort of things.

"But I am not looking any further than next Monday and the Sunderland game. That is the way I've been doing it since I've come in."
