Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp had words of comfort for Everton striker Yakubu Aiyegbeni after yesterday's 0-0 draw.

Everton boss Dave Moyes took off former Pompey hero Yakubu, who cost Everton £11million in the summer from Middlesbrough, and home fans gleefully chanted 'what a waste of money'.

But Redknapp said: "It's difficult for strikers in a match like that.

"Everton's defence was strong but we have Sol Campbell and Sylvain Distin eating up everything at the back and, if anybody gets through, David James is as good as the best there is in goal."
