Liam Ridgewell is likely to be sidelined for up to six weeks according to Portland Timbers head coach Caleb Porter.
The English defender, who captains the reigning MLS Cup champions, felt his hamstring go in training on Friday and it has since been confirmed that he will miss at least a month of action.
"We prepared all week to deal with the way San Jose was going to play," Porter said.
“We trained all week with Ridgy in there... and on our last prep day at the end of training, he goes down."
Prior to Sunday's 2-1 loss to San Jose Earthquakes, former Birmingham City and West Bromwich Albion centre-half Tweeted the following:
Gutted to missing out the game today and next few. Felt my hamstring Friday. Glad luck to the boys. Keep this run going
