Portland Timbers defender Ridgewell set for Wigan loan

Liam Ridgewell is set to join English Championship club Wigan Athletic on loan.

The 30-year old Portland Timbers defender will return to the UK on a two-month deal in a bid to keep fit and sharp during the MLS off-season according to The Oregonian.

Former Aston Villa and Birmingham City centre-back Ridgewell joined the Timbers as a Designated Player from West Bromwich Albion on June 25 but will now spend the next couple of months with the Latics with the mooted loan set to go through until the end of February.

Ridgwell, who is one of three DP defenders in the competition, made 15 appearances for Portland in the second half of the 2014 MLS season, scoring on two occasions.
