Port Vale criticised for letting Joe Davis join Leicester

Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis feels Port Vale could've done more to prevent Joe Davis from moving to Leicester City.

Crewe manager Steve Davis is the father of Joe.

He told The Sentinel: "He has been at Port Vale since he was nine, so he was disappointed to leave.

"He would have liked to have stayed and was offered a two-year contract, but he felt that the offer was a little bit derisory and not an offer that was going to keep him there.

"He was always used when people were injured, but not pushed into the first-team enough, from his dad's perspective. I think he has got a huge potential to improve."

Davis junior will be a part of the Foxes' under-21s development squad for next season.

Dad Steve added: "It is a great opportunity for him. At 20 years of age, I wish I had had that opportunity with a Premier League club, watching Premier League footballers play and training with elite players.

"A few of those have been pushed in to the first-team, so the opportunity and the pathway is there.

"Maybe he will miss the buzz of the derbies and the crowds that you don't get in under-21s football, but to be able to get an opportunity at a club like Leicester is something I don't think you can refuse, and he is really looking forward to it.

"He has got huge potential. He is a hard worker and a good learner, and he is an ambitious lad. It is brilliant for his development."
