Pochettino rues inefficient Tottenham performance in Southampton defeat

Mauricio Pochettino felt his Tottenham Hotspur side could have done more to beat Southampton on Sunday.

Spurs enjoyed just over 70% of possession and created six shots on target but were beaten 2-1 by the Saints at White Hart Lane after Steven Davis scored either side of half-time following Son Heung-min's 16th-minute opener.

Of the performance, Pochettino was of the belief that his team could have put more pressure on but admitted it was another good learning experience for his youthful outfit.

"Two shots on target for them and they scored twice and we scored only once with 70 per cent possession but in football you never know," he said.

"It has been a good experience for us to learn from this season. We improved from last season but we need to still improve and try to improve and try to be better."

Spurs remained second on the Premier League table, falling 10 points behind champions Leicester City, while seeing their lead overt North London rivals Arsenal cut to two points with one match remaining.
