Pochettino key for Spurs trumping Everton for Sissoko

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino was key to their swoop for Newcastle attacker Moussa Sissoko.

Foot Mercato says the France international was on his way to Everton yesterday afternoon after terms between the two clubs had been agreed.

However, a late call from Pochettino and a positive conversation with Sissoko changed the player's mind.

Newcastle set a price of €40 million on deadline day for their wantaway midfielder, though at the beginning of the market he was available for €25 million.

Toon owner Mike Ashley was always going to sell yesterday, knowing that he couldn't leave manager Rafa Benitez with an unhappy player for the season.
