Pleat can understand Hodgson taking Watford job

Former Tottenham and Luton Town manager David Pleat can understand Roy Hodgson taking the Watford job.

Hodgson, 77, is tasked with guiding Watford to Premier League safety.

Pleat told BBC Sport: "Roy, like lots of people in football, he retains vital self-belief. He must believe he has the energy and the opportunity of a further challenge in the Premiership is irresistible.

"I think it emanates from your early experiences when you're captured by the game and you don't lose it. It's your life, it's your love, it's the most wonderful hobby in the world.

"You enjoy it so much, you meet so many wonderful people – not all good – but the life is the thing, that is the adrenaline that keeps you going, not just results. It's the meeting of people, it's the discussions, it's the excitement, it's all captured, it's just a wonderful game.

"I hope he does well, it's not an easy one, there's a lot of competition down there at the moment and the current transfer situation, is that over the next few days clubs are going to be limited to the players they already have."
