Player power sees Real Madrid president Florentino end Icardi pursuit

Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos has talked president Florentino Perez out of a deal this month for Mauro Icardi.

The Inter Milan striker was a major January target for Perez, who was prepared to pay €90m to sign the Argentine.

However, after speaking with Ramos, Perez has pulled back from negotiations over the past week, says Diario Gol.

Ramos is a big fan of Icardi and would be happy to welcome him to Real. But he also knows the Inter captain's arrival would upset senior teammates Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema.

Real coach Zinedine Zidane has also made it clear he isn't interested in a new striker signing and Ramos told Perez that imposing Icardi on the locker room would create problems with their Champions League showdown against PSG looming.
