Burnley were left red-faced as the club collected their medals for winning the Championship title on Monday.
Only 25 of the 27 players were honoured medals at the presentation with newly-crowned Player of the Year Joey Barton and defender James Tarkowski missing out.
The Football League were not to blame though as Burnley owned up to the mistake with a spokesman saying: “Burnley Football Club would like to apologise for the mix-up during the medal ceremony.
“The Football League advised the club that 25 medals were to be presented, but the club put forward 27 players.
“We would like to apologise to the Football League for this administrative error and every player will be receiving one."
Barton Tweeted his disbelief at not being awarded a medal:
No medal? What's going on?

Before a series of tweets between he and Clarets media manager Darren Bentley cleared it all up.
Competely distraught over that mix-up with the medals. Completely my fault. @football_league absolutely not to blame.
