Platense defender Chavez linked with Portsmouth move

Honduras international defender Osman Chavez is being linked with Portsmouth.

The News of the World says Chavez is heading to the South Coast in a four-month loan deal from Platense.

The Honduras defender has been seeking a move to Britain for some time after a number of trials with other clubs.

He hoped to join Newcastle before the deadline but they ended up moving for other defensive targets - including Pompey's Mike Williamson.

Now Platense sources insist a transfer has been brokered with Pompey to offload Chavez with the player due to fly to England in midweek.

Just to confuse matters, however, president Eduardo Ramos has contradicted the statements coming out of the club by saying: "There are four English clubs interested in him, but none of them is Portsmouth."

Of course, Chavez will only be able to move if he is considered a free agent as the deadline has passed in the UK.
