New York City FC midfielder Andrea Pirlo is backing Cristian Brocchi for success at AC Milan.

Brocchi has stepped in at Milan after the sacking of Sinisa Mihajlovic.

“He made the right journey by starting from the youth academy and moving up through the Primavera team," Pirlo told Sky Sport Italia.

“He did really well there. I spoke to him a few days ago, he really wants to improve himself. Now he has this huge opportunity and I am very happy for him, as well as convinced he can do well.

“Is it the right choice? I don't know, especially as I feel bad for Mihajlovic, who is a good man and an excellent Coach.

“We all know that in football the results and the decisions of the club are what matter."
