Pique makes plea to Barcelona president Laporta: Give me chance! It'll be the best 2 years of my career

Gerard Pique has told Barcelona president Joan Laporta he'll make every necessary sacrifice to rescue his Nou Camp career.

The veteran defender met with Barca coach Xavi two days ago where he was encouraged to leave the club.

Xavi informed Pique that he was no longer a first-choice for him and that his salary was becoming a problem. The Barca coach also made clear to Pique that his life away from Barca was also a concern.

Okdiario says yesterday Laporta also met with Pique and was taken aback by the player's bold assertions.

Pique made a passionate defence of his position within the club, telling Laporta: "I will be the starter. If you have doubts, bring the best centre-back in the world, who will come to be on the bench."

Pique assured Laporta he would pull back from all his business interests and also go silent on social media - including Twitch. He also told Laporta he had instructed his agent to hold talks with the club about a pay reduction to assist the club's financial situation.

A final promise was made to the president, with the 35 year-old stopper declaring the final two years of his contract will be the best of his career.
