Pickford or Oblak - Man Utd identify targets for De Gea contingency plan

Manchester United have started to plan for life without David De Gea.

Reports broke yesterday stating De Gea was seeking parity with United's highest wage earners in order to agree to a contract extension.

Despite United having an option to extend the Spaniard's current deal until 2020, the stalling negotiations have caused the club to start exploring alternatives.

According to inews, two of those options are Everton's Jordan Pickford and Atletico Madrid star Jan Oblak.

Pickford has emerged as one of England's brightest talents after a fine World Cup campaign. He has continued that form this season at Goodison Park and his young age - he's just 24 - makes him an appetising prospect for United.

Conversely, Oblak is considered as one of the world's best goalkeepers. The Slovenian has a release clause of £87m and has yet to agree new terms with Atletico as they look to increase that figure.

It is believed De Gea remains interested in staying at United but the longer negotiations go on, the more United feel weaker in negotiations.

After his performance against Young Boys on Tuesday night, De Gea was lauded as indispensable by United boss Jose Mourinho.
