Perr Schuurs on Liverpool bid rumours: It happens when you play for Ajax

Ajax defender Perr Schuurs is staying calm over talk of a bid arriving from Liverpool.

Schuurs has been linked with a January move to Anfield in England this season as Reds manager Jurgen Klopp battles against a defensive injury crisis. Senior centre-halves Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez have both undergone knee surgery and won't be seen to the until of the season - at the best estimate from club medical staff.

Meanwhile in Italy last week, it's been reported Liverpool's interest in Schuurs is at such an advanced stage that they have offered €30m for the youngster.

The 21 year-old featured in Saturday's 5-0 win at FC Emmen and afterwards was asked directly about Liverpool's interest and the report of a bid being tabled for him.

Schuurs told Voetbalzone: "You know that's going to happen when you play at Ajax.

"But I would like to play here, for this club (Ajax) and my focus is here to win with Ajax."

While flattered by the Liverpool transfer rumours, Schuurs also set out his career plan, which is based on the Holland U19 international staying in the Eredivisie with Ajax for another couple of years before considering his next move.

He continued, "I'd like to play for a few more years at Ajax. I am very confident in myself with my development; first a year at Jong Ajax, then a year more at Ajax 1 and now hopefully a whole season.

"That's the line I was hoping for and Ajax too. Hopefully I can pull it through."
