Real Madrid defender Pepe says his contract renewal is in the hands of the club.

For victory over Sporting Gijon, the Portuguese stalwart started alongside longtime partner Sergio Ramos in the centre of defence, with Nacho Fernandez later occupying centre-back alongside Pepe.

"My contract situation is up to the club," the 33-year-old told reporters.

"I'll wait until the last day of my contract if I have to. I want to retire here."
