Pep proud to sustain Man City trophy success; grateful to Txiki and Khaldoon

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola reflected on winning the Premier League title at today's presser.

Guardiola says he's particularly proud to sustain the success he inherited.

He said, "This title is important but we make a big picture. In the last decade City have won five titles, and in the last four years they've won three. That's incredible. I am most proud of sustaining the work ethic. I never expected when I arrived because I know how this country changes but we were always there.

"The target next season is the same, and every season compared with the first year I arrived, opponents are stronger.

"Every year they are stronger, Liverpool will be back again, Chelsea, Leicester, always are there. Arsenal, they trust Mikel Arteta, they will take a step forward."

Guradiola said that City celebrated on Tuesday at the club's academy, across the road from Etihad Stadium.

"It was so nice," he said. "The unexpected parties are the nicest ones. If you organise a big party they are normally more boring than last Tuesday.

"When Leicester won we came here in the bubble, everyone was safe. We trained a bit, we danced, laughed, remembered how good it was. Then at 11:30pm, 10-15 pizzas arrived, which was the best moment of the night!

"Here in England, parties are always just alcohol and I don't understand why. But the moment they brought the pizzas was perfect. It was a nice moment, altogether here. We celebrated really good."

He admits the Champions League quarter-final defeat to Lyon last season still hurts and in particular thanked chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak for his support.

"It's a special gratitude to our sporting director Txiki [Begiristain], he's a friend of mine and it would be hard without him, and especially Khaldoon. I travelled to see him in November and we had long discussions together. He said I still had a lot of work to do and I trust him a lot.

"When I was here in the first season I didn't win anything, and I can't forget the disappointment of Lyon, and the support I had from the chairman. Our success is dedicated to him supporting me. We now have two weeks before a dream comes true with the Champions League final."
