Pellegrini admits lack of creativity cost Man City in Madrid

Manuel Pellegrini says his Manchester City side simply did not create enough scoring chances against Real Madrid.

The Premier League club have failed to reach the final of the UEFA Champions League having lost 1-0 to Real at the Santiago Bernabeu in the semi-final second leg on Wednesday night.

Last week's goalless first leg, married with an inability to score in the return bout, essentially cost City their opportunity to meet Atletico Madrid in the final which Pellegrini alluded to after the match.

"I'm disappointed because it was two close teams," he told BT Sport.

"We didn't create too many chances in the first leg, it was two teams working, but nobody making any difference.

"Of course it was the best team to make a change. I don't think tonight we had a problem in defence, we were not very creative in the last third, which was the difference.

"There were clear chances with Fernandinho and one with Kun (Sergio Aguero) but we didn't make many chances.

"I think that we worked the game very well. We tried to push the ball, to make something different but we were not creative, thats why we didn't score."

The only goal of the contest came on 20 minutes when Gareth Bale's angled right-footed attempt deflected of Fernando and nestled inside the far post having evaded goalkeeper Joe Hart.
