Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew wants to start planning for the summer market.
Newcastle could lose Loic Remy with his loan deal with QPR due to expire at the season's end.
Shola Ameobi's contract will end too and the Magpies are prepared to sell Senegal striker Papiss Cisse if the price is right.
Cheick Tiote has also been linked with Manchester United in recent days.
Pardew told the Evening Chronicle: "It is important that we do that in the next three or four weeks with the board and start targeting the summer.
"I don't think there is any Newcastle fan out there that doesn't realise we have to do some work with this team.
"Remy isn't our player and the striker situation needs to improve. And we've got other areas that are weak.
"This is going to be a big summer for us."
