Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew admits he'll field a shadow team against Europa League opponents Bordeaux.

Pardew has hinted he will head for Thursday night's Europa League tie in Bordeaux without many of his big names as he keeps them in reserve for Monday's league trip to Fulham.

He said: "Our fans need to know that I'm going to have to protect our side because we have got massive games coming up.

"I can't afford to lose anybody in that game, so there will be a few debuts there and if we have got fans flying over or thinking about it, they need to know that."
