Greek star Sotiris Ninis is firming as a top target for Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson.
Ferguson has been following the Panathinaikos midfielder since he was 16 and considers the 20 year-old as a potential replacement for Paul Scholes.
United's interest may be accelerated in January after Inter Milan expressed interest in Ninis this week.
While the transfer window may be closed, United are constantly scouring Europe for players - and Ninis will be watched throughout the season.
It is understood that the Athens club would be prepared to do business in January if a deal to then loan him back for the rest of the season could be agreed
