Palace coach Garner rubbishes Campana involvement in Holloway departure

Crystal Palace first-team coach Ben Garner denies a ruck between Ian Holloway and Jose Campana led to the manager's departure.

Garner has put the record straight on suggestions that Campana - a summer signing from Sevilla - clashed with Holloway.

He told the South London Press: "If there is one story that has annoyed me and a lot of people at the club it was the Jose Campana one because it was complete and utter nonsense.

"The lad only speaks Spanish - and only myself and Julian Speroni speak Spanish. So how he can have an argument with the manager when he can't speak English is ridiculous.

"He's a really good kid. He's trying to adjust to a new country and a new way of life, a very different style of football. It's unfair he's having stories written that are portraying him in the wrong way.

"I went to watch him play for Spain U21s and he was fantastic for them. Their style of play and way they do things is what he's used to. It is a case of adjusting to the pace of the English game and the physicality of it. He's trying to do that."
