Pablo Machin happy taking charge of Elche: We can stay up

Pablo Machin is delighted taking charge of Elche.

Machin was named new coach of Elche this week and presented to the local media on Thursday.

He said, "I believe in staying up because I have already been through a similar situation.

"When I left Soria, being an unknown coach, I earned an opportunity with Girona I caught a colista, with 13 days to go, when I was eight points away from safety. And we managed to get them out of the descent.

"Do I know the formula? I am sensible and the formula is not exact because each club is different. I do know that the key is work and conviction because Elche has a better squad than the table reflects.

"My role is to help get the most out of to be a competitive team. The real protagonists are footballers. I don't have a magic wand, but I'm going to help them achieve a goal other than long-term because there have already been many frustrations and we must set ourselves short-term goals, without thinking of much further."

Machin also said: "A year ago we were very close to coming here. It was a matter of time and a misunderstanding with my previous club in Arabia. The personal aspect is very important to me.

"They told me there would be no problem going out after the fantastic start we had had. I ask my technical staff for commitment and loyalty. When I told my people to go to Arabia, they came with me and I couldn't leave the six people who took on that challenge with me. I appreciated Christian Bragarnik's interest. The situation was not the same as now. The squad was similar, except for the Mojica change. If I thought there was a good team before, now I must think similar."
