Portugal forward Cristiano Ronaldo has received backing in the form of Arsenal legend Mesut Ozil.

The German attacking midfielder, who won the World Cup in 2014, has spoken about the criticism directed Ronaldo's way recently.

The attacker lost his contract with Manchester United, while he was on the bench for Portugal during their round of 16 win over Switzerland.

"I really don't get where this constant negativity from the press about Cristiano comes from..." Ozil wrote via his Twitter account.

"The Media is just trying to get clicks, and pundits who don't have a career anymore just want to get attention with his big name and try to make him look bad…"
