Oyston resigns as Blackpool chairman and director

Premiership new boys Blackpool have announced that Karl Oyston has resigned as chairman and director with immediate effect. Oyston has been chairman since 1999 and last season saw the club win promotion to the Premier League via the Championship play-offs.

Recently, Oyston declared that he had offered to stand down after becoming frustrated with the way some agents work in the Premier League.

He has now vacated his role as chairman, although he will stay at Bloomfield Road until the end of the season, or in the interim until a successor is appointed.

Confirming the news in an official statement on their website, Blackpool emphasised that there would be 'no interruption in the recruitment of players or the work required on the stadium'.

Oyston will continue working with manager Ian Holloway in the pursuit of new signings.
