Own-goal helps Liverpool past dogged Ajax in first match without van Dijk

Liverpool have bounced back from a rough few weeks with a 1-0 victory over Ajax in the Champions League on Wednesday.

The Reds suffered a 7-2 loss to Aston Villa prior to the international break.

And things didn't get easier last weekend when they drew with rivals Everton and lost Virgil van Dijk to an ACL injury.

A victory and clean sheet is exactly what Jurgen Klopp's side needed, and they were helped by Nicolas Tagliafico's first-half own goal.

The Argentine sliced Sadio Mane's cross with ten minutes of the first half remaining.

Fabinho denied an equaliser from Dusan Tadic with a clearance off the line, before Davy Klaassen's effort crashed off the post.

The Reds held on for the win and take away some much needed confidence ahead of Saturday's clash with Sheffield United.
