Overall contribution of two-goal Eto'o pleases Everton boss

Everton manager Roberto Martinez was thrilled with the performance of Samuel Eto'o in Sunday's 3-1 victory at Burnley.

The 33-year old Cameroon striker netted a double for the Toffees as they moved up to ninth on the Premier League table but it wasn't just the goals that delighted his boss.

"As a striker, it's not about how many goals you score, it's how many chances you need to score," said Martinez.

"His link-up play was exceptional, his defensive work was very disciplined and, for someone in that experienced part of his career to be able to play two 90 minutes on Thursday (in the Europa League) and today, I think it shows you the way he looks after himself and what an incredible professional to have in a young group.

"I was extremely proud of his performance."

Eto'o opened the scoring in the fourth minute when he powerfully headed home Leighton Baines' cross before Danny Ings responded for the Clarets in the 20th minute after Romelu Lukaku somehow managed to pass straight to Lukas Jutkiewicz who played in the home side's goalscorer.

Nine minutes later, however, Lukaku atoned for his error when he slotted home after his initial effort was blocked before Eto'o wrapped up the contest in the 85th minute when producing a sublime curling shot from range.

The former Barcelona star almost bagged a hat-trick in the dying stages but was denied by the upright after rounding Burnley keeper Tom Heaton.

Since arriving at Goodison Park, Eto'o has scored four goals in nine matches in all competitions including three in five Premier League outings.
