Osasuna striker Chimy Avila: Barcelona really wanted to sign me

Osasuna striker Chimy Avila is adamant he was on his way to Barcelona midseason before suffering a knee injury.

Barca saw Avila as an injury replacement for Ousmane Dembele, but eventually went with Leganes striker Martin Braithwaite.

Avila recalled: "My agent was driving it. First we could not give the topic of community (EU passport), the only way is if one left or player of theirs was injured.

"But then I was injured and then Dembélé was injured, all the way around, it passed. If not, I'd have gone in like a pig to the sweet potato."

However, the 26 year-old insists he doesn't rue his luck.

"What I wanted was to play, which is what makes me happy. My commitment is with Osasuna, not with Barça or Madrid or Inter. I was going to play for the people who are paying me and the people who pay to see a show. It doesn't come from my soul to play dumb or injured."
