Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill revealed midfielder Craig Gardner wants to quit as Birmingham close in on a £3.5million swoop. Mirrorsport revealed last week that Gardner had asked to leave and was a target for local rivals Birmingham.

The 23 year old has played only three times for Villa this term and is desperate for first team football.

Wolves are also keen, but Gardner would prefer a move across the Second City to St Andrews.
