Okazaki equals Kagawa's Bundesliga record as Mainz goes down to Dortmund

Shinji Okazaki hit the back of the net twice on the weekend but FSV Mainz were beaten by Borussia Dortmund in the German Bundesliga.

The Japanese forward struck in the 14th and 53rd minutes at Signal Iduna Park but could do nothing as die Nullfunfer lost 4-2 to BVB.

Milos Jojic and Robert Lewandowski traded goals with Okazaki before Lukasz Piszczek and Marco Reus scored in the second half to secure a Champions League spot for Dortmund for 2014/15.

Okazaki has now scored 13 league goals in 2013/14, which equals Shinji Kagawa's record by a Japanese player in a single German season when he was at Dortmund.

"It's great to score against a top team," Okazaki said. "I want to continue playing like I did today.

"If I can score another goal. I believe I can make my mark in Germany."

Mainz currently sit seventh on the Bundesliga table with three league fixtures remaining courtesy of Okazaki's 13 goals following his offseason move from VfB Stuttgart.
