New York Red Bulls winger Lloyd Sam has landed the MLS Player of the Week award for Week 23.
The former Charlton Athletic and Leeds United man came off the bench to help spark the Red Bulls to a 3-2 victory over Sporting Kansas City on the weekend.
Sam entered play in the 60th minute when the score was 1-1 but immediately made an impact, creating the go-ahead goal for Fabian Espindola three minutes later before giving New York a two-goal advantage with a strike of his own in the 69th minute.
Sam's night then ended prematurely in the 87th minute with a quadriceps injury but he did enough to land the weekly prize in the eyes of the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR).
He joins fellow Red Bull Tim Cahill who took out the weekly award back in Week 9.
