NYRB secure services of ex-Vasco, Lyon star Juninho

New York Red Bull have completed the signing of Brazilian midfielder Juninho Pernambucano.

The 37-year old former Lyon star has joined the Red Bulls from homeland club Vasco da Gama and will officially be added to the playing roster upon receipt of his international clearance and visa.

"Juninho is a world-class player who our global sporting director, Gerard Houllier and I have known and admired for many years," said New York's sporting director Andy Roxburgh.

"Aside from being a top dead-ball specialist and a tremendous talent, Juninho is a fantastic professional both on and off the field. He is in great physical shape and we think he can make a positive impact for us in 2013."

Juninho, who has played for Brazil on 47 occasions, kicked off his career with Sport Club do Recife in 1991 before moving to Vasco in 1995 where he won six trophies by 2001 prior to his shift to France with Lyon.

At the Stade de Gerland, he helped Les Gones win seven French Ligue 1 titles before moving on to Qatari outfit Al-Gaharafa in 2009 and then back to Vasco last year.
