NYRB release Costa Rican striker Martinez

New York Red Bull have waived Costa Rican forward Josue Martinez.

The 23-year old only joined the Red Bulls from Philadelphia Union during the offseason but has already been released after just one substitute appearance so far in the 2013 MLS season.

"We spoke with Josue and think that this is a mutually beneficial decision," Red Bulls Sporting Director Andy Roxburgh said in a statement.

"We want to wish Josue the best of luck in the next stage of his career."

The arrival of Andre Akpan from Colorado Rapids late last week led to the decision to let Martinez go.
