New York Red Bulls head coach Mike Petke was not giving too much away regarding the actions of Tim Cahill on the weekend.
Last week, the former Everton star said he would make no apologies to the Red Bulls for leaving to play for Australia in friendlies with the UAE in Dubai on October 10 and Qatar in Doha four days later.
Cahill also acted in a peculiar manner during Saturday night's 1-0 win over the Houston Dynamo when leaving the warm-up group to sit on the substitutes bench by himself when waiting to come on at the Red Bull Arena.
The Socceroos star finally entered the fray in the 85th minute but was sent off three minutes later when receiving a straight red card for a strong challenge on Dynamo ace Boniek Garcia.
Cahill's words about putting his country first have been compounded by his out-of-character actions on Saturday but Petke insists the story has already been a massive beat up.
"We won 1-0 in a massive game tonight," said Petke.
"It's become a big story, but it's not. It's not a big story.
"The story tonight is a 1-0 win and guys that worked hard for it."
For the record, Cahill told reporters last week that: "For me, [balancing club and country] doesn't matter. It is what it is.
"Coach makes the decision and he has to live by it. If [the Red Bulls] are upset that I go on international duty, I have stated before coming to this club that [Australia] was my main focus.
"It was stated to the MLS. It is what it is; I don't make the FIFA dates the same as every other FIFA date. It's a pleasure to play for your country."
