Norwich goalkeeper Tim Krul admits mixed emotions after defeat to Brentford

Norwich City goalkeeper Tim Krul admitted mixed emotions after defeat to Brentford.

Krul kept his place in goal after returning to the side for the week's Emirates FA Cup game against Liverpool.

“I'm pleased I'm back," he said. “I hate watching from the side because you can't be an impact on the team, but I've been fighting to get back. I'm pleased to be fully recovered but today is massively disappointing. I was hoping to kickstart the season today and now we need a bit of magic on Thursday and cause a massive upset."

On the game, the Dutchman said: “Brentford is one of those games where you want three points.

“Initially, we had two massive chances to go 1-0 up. That's why it's extra frustrating that we didn't, because that would've given us the push to kick on.

“We've been punished by three moments on set-pieces. It's frustrating because I think we've got enough in this group and we've created enough. The fans were right behind us and that's the bit of spark we all need in the first five minutes, when everybody is behind you to go 1-0 up. We need to look at ourselves because in the big moments we weren't good enough.

“The referee initially decided it (Gibson's foul) wasn't a penalty. I haven't seen it back, but I didn't think it was a clear and obvious foul. Gibbo's trying to clear it. He might have caught him. We're not blaming anybody apart from ourselves. Everybody, including myself, expected us to get three points today.

“We need to give the fans something to shout about. Going 3-0 down, it's normal that they're not going to be happy. We're feeling the same. I've got belief in the squad but we need to start showing it on the pitch."
