Norwich defender Aarons on Southampton defeat: We failed to stick to gameplan

Norwich City defender Max Aarons admits they failed to play as they wanted in defeat to Southampton on Friday night.

City were comfortably beaten on their travels on Friday night, with goals from Che Adams and Oriol Romeu firing the hosts to victory.

Aarons said after the game: "We came here with a gameplan and we haven't done it well enough tonight.

"We gave ourselves too much defending to do. A few unforced errors and we didn't do what we spoke about before the game.

"We've come here and lost and we'll be disappointed tonight, but we'll be straight back to it tomorrow. We've got huge games ahead now.

"We've got games that we can go and win, and we'll make sure we go and give ourselves the best opportunity to win those.

"We tried to play with more intent in the second-half. It gave us more of a foothold in the game but it wasn't enough."

Aarons acknowledged City's improved displays over recent weeks, but he was disappointed the team couldn't take the confidence from those games into Southampton.

"We've done a lot good things over the last few weeks but we didn't take them into tonight's game.

"The difference in the first-half tonight and the first-half against Liverpool was massive.

"It hurts and all we can do is do the best we can to bounce back."
