Norwich boss Farke defends Pukki after 'off day'

Norwich City boss Daniel Farke felt they did enough to win in defeat at home to Wolves.

Wolves were second best in the opening period, and were trailing at the break, but it all changed after the interval as Nuno's side upped their game and produced a comeback victory. Romain Saiss and Raul Jimenez bagged the crucial goals.

Speaking to canaries.co.uk post-match, Farke said: “Football sometimes feels like the most unfair sport in the world, which it probably is. When you play games like tennis, basketball, handball you win more points, but football is often decided by one or two goals.

“In football you have to grab yourself a fair reward or fair outcome and today we missed too many chances and for that we missed the reward, they were able to use their two or three chances in the game, so we have to accept the loss.

“It feels unbelievably tough and is a disappointing day today, because I think performance-wise, in many many periods of the game, we were fantastic. Our goalscorer in record form so often in brilliant situations, but even he's not a machine, so even he missed unbelievable chances at times, for that it feels unfair. We have to accuse ourselves; we missed the chances and we were ten inches too late in defending the goals, we have to accept it."

Farke also defended Teemu Pukki after an "off day".

He said, “In comparison to the Sheffield United game, we played nearly perfect in the first-half, scoring a goal, hitting the post, Teemu [Pukki] having two or three one-on-ones with the goalkeeper.

“Even the second-half, we weren't that dominant, you can't play such a game like a cup game against a team where you dominate every second. Of course, they had their spells in the second-half but I think we did more than enough to win the game.

“We have to accept that sometimes our best goal scorer has an off day, it's not up to us to accuse him or whatever, he delivered with so many goals we have to back him and to accept 'okay, you've won so many points for us, and today it was an off day'. We accept this."
