Northampton admit defeat in bid for Reading's Cox

Northampton have had their hopes of signing Reading striker Simon Cox dashed after he was offered a one-year contract at the Madjeski Stadium.

Reading manager Steve Coppell is keen to keep hold of the player and has rewarded his promising performances with a new contract and the possibility of first team opportunities.

The 20 year old is realistic about the situation and remained open to the possibility of another loan stint and told the Northampton Chronicle & Echo: "If there are four strikers ahead of me then it might be a chance to go out on loan and see what happens in January.

"Anything can happen before then with injuries. I'm just going to come back for pre-season flying and see what happens. It's down to the manager to pick me. All I want is a chance."
