North Queensland Fury's Payne to undergo surgery

Chris Payne has played his last game for North Queensland Fury with surgery on his injured booked in for next week.

The 20-year old will join Newcastle Jets next season, meaning his one-season stay in Townsville is now over.

Payne tore his right lateral meniscus in Wednesday's 3-0 loss to Melbourne Victory and will now miss the remainder of the season with the Fury.

The club's operations manager Robbie Middleby said it was a disappointing end to Payne's time with the Fury.

"It's an unfortunate end to the season for Chris and also for Fury fans looking forward to seeing him play next Saturday against Brisbane Roar," Middleby said.

"He has a bright future and we wish him all the best with his endeavours."
