The Sunday Mirror says Nolan is being reluctantly forced to consider his long-term future at Newcastle.
The Toon hierarchy have refused to extend his current contract at St James' Park.
Nolan has two years remaining on his current deal and was open to extending it by a further two years.
But the club has shelved plans to discuss his contract until the end of next season leaving Nolan in complete limbo.
Sources close to the player claim he is torn apart by the situation and has never at any point contemplated leaving Tyneside.
But the uncertainty surrounding his future is now leading to increasing speculation he may reconsider his position at the club.
