Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has made it clear there will be no preferential treatment for the Red Devils' raft of new signings.
Van Gaal said on the club's pre-season tour of the USA that big-name acquisitions Bastian Schweinsteiger, Morgan Schneiderlin and Matteo Darmian will have to fight for their spots at Old Trafford, despite United reportedly outlaying a combined £50million-plus for the trio.
"Every player who is sitting here can make that contribution but they know already they have to fight for their position," van Gaal said.
"Never in top sport is it secure. No position is secure. Even my position is not secure, as you know.
"Morgan Schneiderlin has to fight with Michael Carrick, Schweinsteiger and Daley Blind. These are the players who can play in the centre of midfield.
"Matteo Darmian has to fight with (Antonio) Valencia."
