​NINE MILLION Tweets = Champions League Final!

The Champions League final between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid was won by the former as Cristiano Ronaldo scored in the penalty shoot-out, and was also keenly followed on social media.

The game in Milan produced no less than 9 million tweets with Cristiano Ronaldo taking most of the attention.

The three-time Ballon d'Or winner was the subject of the most posts during the final after triggering off 167,000 tweets per minute following his match-winning penalty, which handed Real their 11th Champions League title on Saturday.

In fact, statistics from Twitter show that the Portuguese star was the most-tweeted about individual of the final as his Real Madrid teammates Pepe and Sergio Ramos came in close behind.

Meanwhile, Atletico's Yannick Carrasco got in on the act with his equaliser and subsequent kiss with his girlfriend, which produced 77,000 tweets per minute - the fourth-most tweeted-about event of the final.
