Nice wing-back Allan Saint-Maximin is in limbo today.

Nice-Matin says Saint-Maximin was close to agreeing a move to Newcastle United, which are prepared to pay €25m for his transfer.

However, the midfielder's switch is now in doubt after Rafa Benitez's departure was confirmed yesterday.

Saint-Maximin may now pull back from negotiations after a day of turmoil on Tyneside.

The 22 year-old is tied to Patrick Vieira's Nice until 2022.
